eFoil Wind FAQ

How to read the eFoil wind map

New to electric hydrofoiling? Here's how wind, gusts, and glass windows translate to flight time. Ready to ride Lake Tahoe? Book an eFoil lesson or pick the right Waydoo eFoil for your conditions.

What wind speed is best for eFoiling?
Glassy water under 5 mph is the dream for eFoil riders — the board lifts effortlessly and the ride feels weightless. 5–10 mph is still groovy for intermediate hydrofoil sessions, 10–15 mph gets choppy, and anything 15 mph or higher is a blowout zone where most riders should stay off the water.
Can you eFoil in wind? How much wind is too much?
Yes, you can eFoil in light wind — many experienced riders happily foil through 10–14 mph. Beyond 15 mph the chop makes it hard to maintain flight, and gusts can throw you off the foil. Beginners should wait for a glass window under 8 mph.
What's the best time of day to eFoil?
Dawn and the hour before sunset are almost always the glassiest. Thermal winds on most US lakes and coasts kick in mid-morning and die down at dusk, which is why our GlassFinder highlights early and late 'glass windows' in the 3-day forecast.
Does an eFoil work on the ocean and lakes?
Yes. Waydoo eFoils and most electric hydrofoils ride on saltwater bays, alpine lakes, reservoirs, and slow rivers. Wind matters more than water type — use the eFoil wind map above to scout any US spot before you load the trailer.
